Victoria Chinese Restaurant - Downtown Van

Today I met my client and good friend Michelle for a work lunch..although it never feels like work with her...we get much accomplished and always have a lovely time together.

She is Asian so always knows the best dim sum places to take me. Last time we tried Kirin which was awesome (reviewed previously) but Victoria was really fantastic. It is a little on the pricey side...that said we ordered too much and even had left overs this time.

My favorites were the pork dumplings...light and almost fluffy, filled with very flavourful pork and spices. We also had the Har Gow (steamed shrimp dumplings) which were fantastic...delicate and tasty. The sticky rice was pretty typical...but lots of chunks of meat inside which was nice, and the steamed gai lan was perfectly crisp, laying in a light soy.

The Shark Fin soup was delicious as well, but the most interesting...and purely indulgent, was the pork pie....pork in a rich sauce done in a flaky pastry...wow...one or two pieces is a lot though as it is sooo rich.

This restaurant is packed all of the time...lots of turnover, which means the food is very fresh (and you can taste it!) I was also one of the few whities in the resto...which is always a good sign...means they are serving authentic dishes with high standards (I mean come on...if it were by Caucasian standards....it would taste like McDonalds or come out of a can...hahaha).

Take a client or two for a fantastic lunch and Enjoy!
