Royal Dar- Ladysmith

What a hidden little treasure! Business brought me to Ladysmith, BC today, and I met with some clients at this little Indian place called the Royal Dar. You would never know it was there..unless you knew it was there. Situated in a cute little house-style restaurant, it almost felt like it really was dining in someones home. The owner Kam was there, and was a gracious hostess, with a fun personality, and is obviously known well by the locals.

We started with three baskets of nan....had too much left over, so only get two baskets for 4 people. The spinach nan was some of the best I have ever had...tender, soft, and bursting with flavour. The garlic nan was a close second, but you must try the spinach!

We all ordered the same dish, although Indian food is generally prepared family style so you can share. But since we all wanted the same item...there was no need to share, so we could greedily eat every last bite. Which is exactly what we all did!

The lunch portions are perfect...I ate everything and didn't feel too full or empty..just right. We each ordered the Seafood Goa which was excellent. Full of flavour, not too oily (like some Indian food can be)....as spicy (or not) as you like it, with chunks of fish, scallops and prawns. Your traditional condiments such as rice and subjee (an excellent vegetable concoction).

We enjoyed some wine and Indian beer along side our delicious lunch, and I must say if you are on the Island, its worth it to zip over to this adorable little place and enjoy!
