Every now and then Ivan and I don't feel like cooking...it doesn't happen that often..perhaps once a month or so. And we get this craving for Chinese take-out. Lucky for us, Tang's Noodle House is just down the street on Broadway!
If there is just the two of us, we order a large House Special Wonton Soup and it is absolutely delicious!!! Maybe some of the best wontons I have ever had....big and plump and full of flavour....the broth is delish and there are lots of other treasures to be discovered...Chinese mushrooms, pork, seafood....yum.
We will also get an order of the chicken lettuce wraps, which are always a hit..nice and fresh and yummy. Those two for pick up are just under$20bucks and we usually have some left over...so the portions are big.
When mom and dad come out....well lets just say...when dad is in control of ordering Chinese food...there is barely anything left on the menu! It's nice when there is a group however, so you can taste so many different dishes...all of them are equally wonderful.
Last week, we ate in the restaurant vs. take out.....not much of a room...typical...but I noticed there are more items on their in house menu vs. the take out....one that really peaked my attention was their dumplings....I LOVE dumplings, and didn't think that they made them...but now I know, and I am excited to try them!
So next time you are in the mood for a little take out...I absolutely recommend Tangs as you are sure to Enjoy!
At first I had created this blog as an avenue for me to write about Food and Life...but over the years things change and it seems lately (with the arrival of our first baby) I am writing more about Life than Food. I was thinking of changing the name of the blog..but other than my family and friends...food is still a passion, so please follow along my adventures in and out of the Kitchen and ENJOY!

Cheap Coffee and a Fish
Sunday's are such a lovely day...time to just relax and enjoy, and this Sunday was no exception. It was the world cup Soccer finals so Mr. Soccer Fan Ivan dragged Mrs. not-so-much-soccer fan Me-down to Commercial drive to partake in the festivities....and I am so thrilled that he did. We arrived 1.5hrs before the game started, thinking this was plenty of time..but NOPE, every place with a TV was packed. But we piled into this total dive called Joes, which must be a local classic, as you can tell there are a bunch of regulars and Joe himself seems like a local fixture. I felt like I was in Europe...so many different nationalities, all equally excited for the game..half cheering on Spain and the other half the Dutch...it was really exciting!
This place really grew on me as we watched and cheered and met new friends. They say they are known for the BEST Cappuccino around....I can't vouch for it as I am a tea sipper...but do let me know your thoughts! We ordered a prosciutto sandwich and much to my surprise it was AMAZING! Great Place to stop in for a sammy and a bevie with loads of character and charming old European men serving you with a smile!
After the game, we enjoyed some of the fun in the streets, with the music and dancing, then went home to put on our walking shoes to take a stroll to Granville Island. It was hot out, and just perfect for our fave fish and chip joint...this place is not known all that well...and I
almost don't want to tell you about it, for fear the lineup will get even longer...but what the heck..I'm a generous gal...so here it is Go Fish (sorry no link) located at 1505 1st Ave W, is by far the best we have ever had. We prefer the Cod as it seems more juicy..but a lot of folks love the Halibut. You must go here on a sunny day, as this is literally a shack by the water with only a small outdoor seating area and there is always a lineup....but its sooo worth it, for the food and the entire experience...its so Vancouver and a must for visitors! Order an extra side of their awesome Asian coleslaw and you are set! Their fish tacos are to die for as well...great place to take a date that's for sure...or just take in a lazy Sunday afternoon and Enjoy!!
